First in my family to go to University

Students who are the first in their family to attend university sometimes find that they face different challenges as they adjust to university life.  There are a few groups on campus that look to assist first generation students with their specific questions and concerns.

We encourage you to visit the Student Life Website to learn more about programs designed with first generation students in mind.  You can also learn more about the experience of first generation students on campus by visiting the First Generation Student Ambassador's Facebook Page.

Check out your to-do list here!

We also want you to know about a fantastic event that is happening in August.  START on Campus is an on-campus event designed specifically to welcome first generation students, off-campus students, and transfer students to the university.  A first generation student is someone whose parents did not attend university. This group often finds that they have to explain campus life to their families, at the same time that they're trying to figure it out for themselves. Off-campus students are those who choose to live off campus in their first year. Transfer Students are those who have come to Guelph after spending time at another Post-Secondary institution.
